At Indiana Horse Rescue we take in horses from all backgrounds and for all reasons. One way horses are entered into our program is through impounds conducted by Law Enforcement Officers or Animal Control Officers. This page will give you updates on our latest court horses that have been impounded by Law Enforcement and have been placed in our care!

8, 2007
Vanderburg County, Indiana
Four horses arrived at our Indiana Horse Rescue Southwest
facility after being impounded by law enforcement officers. They had been
abandoned at this point and previously several attempts were made to
educated the owner on proper horse care and maintenance. These horses
currently are stable, but have a long way to recovery. The owner was located
and all four of the horses were successfully signed over to Indiana Horse
Rescue. All are young Thoroughbred broodmares with sweet and
affectionate personalities.
November 1, 2007
Starke County, Indiana
38 horses and 7 donkeys were
signed over to Indiana Horse Rescue after being impounded by authorities in
Knox, Indiana on October 4, 2007. Authorities placed all equine in
foster homes prior to IHR gaining custody of the animals. Each foster home
was notified and the majority of foster homes are adopting their fostered
equine! We are so thrilled to work with so MANY caring and compassionate
foster homes-now adopters! Thank you to everyone who took part in this
amazing rescue, you are angels in the eyes of the horses you saved! Please

July 2, 2007
Pulaski County, Indiana
Indiana Horse Rescue was called in by authorities after
two horses were running loose in Pulaski County. The two young
stallions were caught and impounded by law enforcement officers. Both horses
sustained minor injuries. One colt had an old injury to his private area,
which was infected and needed treatment immediately. These very lucky
fellows were taken to an Indiana Horse Rescue facility where they were
triaged and evaluated for any other health related issues.

June 2, 2007
Gibson County, Indiana
71 horses were schedule
to be impounded by Gibson County authorities from the same farm that 15
horses were impounded from the weekend before. Authorities were successful
in convincing the owner of the 71 horses signed all of the horses over to
Indiana Horse Rescue. All horses were evaluated for immediate health
concerns and those that needed the most care where transported to several of
Indiana Horse Rescue's facilities.

May 26, 2007
Gibson County, Indiana
15 live horses and
1 deceased foal were impounded by Gibson County authorities and were
immediately transferred into Indiana Horse Rescue custody to receive proper
medical care. Several of the horses were emaciated mares with young foals at
their sides.

2007
Dearborn County, Indiana
Local animal control was successful in convincing the owner
of one horse, to sign her over to Indiana Horse Rescue. Daisy
was transported to Indiana Horse Rescue's facility in Frankfort, where she
underwent immediate medical care. Through the next couple days, volunteers
at Indiana Horse Rescue were not sure if she would live or die, but Daisy
pulled through and is getting stronger and stronger each day!
May 3, 2007
Clay County, Indiana
Three horses and one miniature horse
were impounded by law enforcement officers in Clay County and were placed in
the custody of Indiana Horse Rescue. Each horse suffered for different
stages of emaciation and neglect. These horses were evaluated and will
continue to be monitored closely as their condition is still touch and go.

Pulaski County, Indiana
Twelve horses were impounded by law enforcement
officers and animal control. All were in different states of emaciation and
neglect. Several had minor injuries from barbed wire laying about, various
trash and debris, and/or from being tied or chained. All horses were turned
into Indiana Horse Rescue custody, rounded up, and shipped to several
Indiana Horse Rescue facilities to receive immediate medical care.
