Court Horses
At Indiana Horse Rescue we take in horses from all backgrounds and for all reasons. One way horses are entered into our program is through impounds conducted by Law Enforcement Officers or Animal Control Officers. This page will give you updates on our latest court horses that have been impounded by Law Enforcement and have been placed in our care!

Four horses - a stallion, two mares, and a foal were impounded by law enforcement officers for running at large. Multiple attempts to work with the owner to prevent the horses from escaping their pens had been made, however the owners made no attempts to change anything. Indiana Horse Rescue volunteers were called in to assist in the capture and transport of the horses after the stallion charged Animal Control's vehicles and proved to be fractious. These horses are currently undergoing medical evaluation and more information is still to come!

March 4,
2008
Hancock County, Indiana
Indiana Horse Rescue investigators were called in about a horse that was blind and starved to death. The blind mare had been dumped on the property. The land owner had called animal control and just wanted the horse to be caught and taken care of. Several volunteers worked hard to catch the poor starved mare, but she was so frightened that any attempt to catch her, put her at risk. The pasture she was dumped in was meant for cows, it was lined with barbed wire and equipment was place in the pasture as well. The blind mare began to injure herself out of fear and it was decided that the humane thing to do was to euthanize the poor mare. Because of last year's drought and this year's economy it has been increasingly harder and harder to afford horses. The result: Horses being neglected and let loose everywhere across the U.S. If you know anyone who is struggling to care for their horse, please encourage them to do the right thing, sell the horse, donate the horse to a rescue, euthanize the horse, be a responsible horse owner, but do not let the horse suffer!
