Recent Court Horses

At Indiana Horse Rescue we take in horses from all backgrounds and for all reasons. One way horses are entered into our program is through impounds conducted by Law Enforcement Officers or Animal Control Officers. This page will give you updates on our latest court horses that have been impounded by Law Enforcement and have been placed in our care or cases we have participated in, in efforts to save horses in need!

September 2, 2010
Gibson County, Indiana

Animal Control and Indiana Horse Rescue were called to investigate horses not being fed. Upon arrival the owner agreed that he could no longer care for the horses and signed over all four horses. All horses were transported to our IHR Southwest facility for immediate care and attention.
 


July 29, 2010
Gibson County, Indiana

Indiana Horse Rescue investigators along with Animal Control were called about horses not being taken care of. Upon arrival to the scene the owner agreed to sign over two of the horses with poor hoof conditions and three horses were humanely euthanized immediately. The two horses that were signed over were transported to IHR Southwest facility to receive immediate attention. More information to follow.


July 28, 2010
Knox County, Indiana

3 horses were impounded by Law Enforcement Officers in Knox County, Indiana. The horses were transported to IHR Southwest facility to receive immediate care. Two of the horses were found in a severely emaciated state as well as all horses were housed in an area that could not properly contain them as well as the shelter was falling apart and a danger to the animals. June 12, 2010
Putnam County, Indiana

13 horses were impounded due to neglect.  They included 6 stallions, 5 mares and 2 foals.  They range in neglect from severe to poor.  Some of these horses were locked in totally enclosed garages with no air flow, no windows and no water, on a day the heat index was over 100 degrees.  Thanks to a some great volunteers and friends the 13 horses were all safely loaded into 3 trailers after being impounded by law enforcement and animal control, and transported to IHR Southwest for evaluations.

May 19, 2010
Pulaski County, Indiana

8 horses were impounded due to running at large. The variety included three mares, a foal, a gelding, a stallion, and two mischievous ponies. The fencing at the property was not keeping them in and there was also a lot of hazardous materials in their pasture. Thanks to a great group of volunteers all 8 horses were captured successfully, impounded by law enforcement and animal control, and transported to IHR Central for evaluations.

Floyd County, Indiana


IHR Southwest received three equine (two horses and a mule) from the New Albany Shelter, they were impounded due to being abandoned. They had poor hoof care and one, an appaloosa was anemic and requires special feed.
 


March 17, 2010
Ripley County, Indiana

5 horses and 2 miniature burros were impounded by law enforcement and placed in IHR custody after being neglected. It was too late for 2 horses, one of which died while foaling. The horses are currently in foster homes awaiting transportation to an IHR facility. The horses have all been seen by a veterinarian and have been placed on a proper diet.
